Alpha Flight #1 serves up a massive swerve.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As the X-Men confront the opening stages of the Fall of X era, the latest incarnation of Alpha Flight might have many readers upset to find Canada's premiere superhero team taking Orchis' side against the mutants... at least until a shocking twist reveals Alpha Flight has actually working to aid mutantkind the entire time.

Alpha Flight Has Managed To Keep Their Allegiances Secret In Alpha Flight #1 the team is seen working for Erika Doiron, the head director of Department H, as she touts them as Canada's premiere defense against the terrible "mutant menace." It is only at the end of Alpha Flight #1 reveals that Alpha Fight have actually been lying to Erika the whole time, that they are secret allies to the X-Men, which makes their earlier actions even more impressive.

For the time being, Alpha Flight is not only secretly helping some of their former teammates retrieve mutants in danger from Orchis' clutches, but their intimate knowledge of Department H's inner workings will be invaluable in the fight against Orchis. First introduced in full in 1979s Uncanny X-Men #121 as characters used to fill out Wolverine's backstory before joining the X-Men, Alpha Flight is a government sanctioned Canadian superhero team run by the secretive Department H.
