MATTHEW WRIGHT isn’t doing anything wrong for Phoenix Super LPG which lost one star after another—Calvin Abueva, Vic Manuel and Chris Banchero—to other teams.

Wright is delivering the goods when it matters most and the Fuel Masters have gone deeper into the playoff round of the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup.

He ended the elimination round averaging 18.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 12 games—including Phoenix’s 101-98 victory over NorthPort in the playoff for the last quarterfinal seat last Sunday. The 6-foot-4 Wright, chosen for the national team for the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games 16-man pool, said they can make it happen.

Without Abueva, who is now with Magnolia, Manuel now with San Miguel Beer and Banchero now with Meralco, Wright has only big man Jason Perkins, Ryan Garcia, RJ Jazul, unfamiliar players Billy Ray Robles, Simon Camacho, Nick Demusis, rookie Sean Manganti and hardworking import Du’ Vaughn Maxwell.
