Tied at 2 in the first round of their match, Rodriguez found leverage and flattened Killeen Ellison’s Francisco Limon to the ground, holding him for several seconds before raucous cheers rang out as the referee slammed the mat to signal the pin. Judson sophomore Samaria Barnett reached the 6A girls 165-pound title match with two wins Friday and another Saturday morning.
Marsh and Allen freshman Aiden Cooley battled to a 1-1 draw in regulation of their third-place match. In extra time, Cooley forced Marsh out of the ring for a 3-1 sudden victory. Marsh, the top seed from Region IV, went 4-2 over the weekend with two pins. Cooley also edged Marsh by 8-4 decision in the second round to push the all-state tight end to the consolation bracket.
