World Cup 2022: Grant Wahl cause of death revealed after journalist who wore rainbow shirt died in Qatar
Dr. Celine Gounder revealed the cause of death was found after an autopsy in the United States while speaking on CBS Mornings Wednesday."He had an autopsy done here in New York by the New York City medical examiner's office, and it showed that he had an aortic aneurysm that ruptured," Gounder said.
Wahl made headlines at the World Cup when he was harassed by officials for wearing a rainbow shirt to the U.S.-Wales match. Gounder said she wanted people to remember his advocacy. "I want people to remember him as this kind, generous person who was really dedicated to social justice," Gounder said. The cause of death was revealed a day after the family announced they no longer suspected foul play after Wahl's brother originally suspected so in the immediate aftermath of his sudden death.Wahl, a sportswriter and contributor to several outlets, including Fox Sports, CBS Sports, and Sports Illustrated, was given a tribute at the World Cup before the England-France match Saturday.
