‘Women are just as capable as men’: Upcoming San Antonio police event aims to boost female recruitment numbers

The police department is hosting a Women in Policing event Saturday in an effort to recruit more women to the force.Gunshots reverberated through the air as San Antonio Police Department cadets fired pistols at targets, offering a sneak peek at what civilians attending the department’s Situational Awareness Training for Women this Saturday will be doing.

Hoping to boost female recruitment numbers, the San Antonio Police Department is holding the free event 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the department’s training academy off Southeast Loop 410. Roughly 50 of the 100 spots had been filled as of Tuesday morning, according to SAPD Public Information Officer Jennifer Rodriguez.

San Antonio Police Department Recruiter Juan Garcia fires a gun Tuesday morning. The police department is hosting a Women in Policing event Saturday in an effort to recruit more women to the force.“Much like the military, law enforcement is male-dominated,” said SAPD Recruiter Juan Garcia. “But that shouldn’t be the case.”
