Woman shot in hand, leg while tussling for pistol in front of northeast Houston store, police say
The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the 9800 block of Mesa, Houston police Lt. Ronnie Willkens said.
The woman, who was later shot, was initially yelling at a man as people entered and exited the store, Willkens said. At some point, the woman turned her attention to the woman with the pistol. The two got into a physical altercation, and as a struggle ensued, the gun went off striking the unarmed woman in the hand and leg, according to the HPD lieutenant.
Several citizens at the scene were able to get the pistol away from the armed woman, Willkens said. Everyone left the scene after the shooting, and that's when the injured woman called 911, he said.The woman with the pistol, who appears to be in her late 20s, left the scene in an old silver Buick, the lieutenant said. It's unclear if the women knew each other or what led to the fight.
