Ken Williams shields his face from the chilly wind as he walks in downtown Dallas on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020.High winds are expected Wednesday morning across North and Central Texas, heightening the risk for wildfires in some western counties, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory is in effect until noon Wednesday for all of North and Central Texas. Sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph are possible, the forecast says. The weather service advised people to tack down unyielding lawn furniture or outdoor items and use caution when driving lightweight or high-profile vehicles.

The strong winds and balmy temperatures elevate the fire danger for areas to the west of Interstate 35, the weather service said.People are advised to monitor local burn bans and avoid outdoor activities that could spark flames, like leaving a campfire unattended, throwing lit cigarettes on the ground, outdoor welding or burning trash.
