General manager Neal Huntington acknowledges the need for his Pittsburgh Pirates to shake things up. That is not exactly a surprise considering his team has been in a freefall for over a month
“I think we recognize that changes are needed and emotional decisions are rarely good decisions, whether things are going really well and you make an emotional decision because they're going well or things are not going well and you make an emotional decision,” Huntington said Sunday on his weekly radio show on KDKA-FM, the Pirates’ flagship station
Kela reportedly got into a loud verbal altercation with Hector Morales, the Pirates’ director of cultural readiness and peak performance coach. Manager Clint Hurdle stepped in to diffuse the situation and wound up being berated by Kela. It is difficult to know what Nutting is thinking as he has not made himself available to the media since the early portion of spring training. However, the newspaper magnate values loyalty very highly and neither Huntington nor Hurdle have ever complained about being saddled with one of the lowest payrolls in the major leagues on an annual basis.
