The possibility of all this is exactly why the Rangers loaded up on so much pitching this offseason that their first offseason acquisition, Jake Odorizzi, became a great option as the No. 6 guy. Only he’s not pitched in a game yet, either. Arm fatigue. Throwing bullpens, too. Which is better than not throwing at all., who threw 196 innings last year and breezed through three innings in his first start of the spring. He’s supposed to pitch four innings Saturday.
“It’s fair to say we are [erring on the side of caution],” manager Bruce Bochy said after the game. “We addressed this with the pitchers at the start of camp. We told them to let us know anything that is going on; we had the ability to back off. Spring training is pretty long and so, in the early part, we are going to be a little more cautious.”
