Making more Game of Thrones spin-offs and continuations is a huge challenge for HBO and for good reason, according to HBO content CEO Casey Bloys.

Despite the success of House of the Dragon, HBO still has some major hurdles in the way of future Game of Thrones spinoffs. House of the Dragon broke records by drawing nearly 10 million viewers for its premiere, even after the controversial ending of Game of Thrones. Set over a century before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, House of the Dragon follows the beginning of a civil war between members of House Targaryen.

With viewership rising for House of the Dragon, the future for the Game of Thrones world seems brighter than ever. Yet, despite its critical acclaim and massive ratings, HBO isn't jumping onto another spin-off just yet. In an interview with Variety, the CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, Casey Bloys, explained that HBO is being very careful about its future spin-offs. Check out his quote below:

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY “My philosophy is a good script is number one priority. I am not doing it based on wanting to have one a year, two a year. I want to do it based on the scripts that we’re excited about... Remember to get ‘House of the Dragon’ following up from ‘Game of Thrones,’ we developed a lot of shows, shot a pilot, developed a bunch of scripts and we got ‘House of the Dragon.' To do that again is going to take the same amount of effort.

One major production is a Jon Snow sequel series, which will feature Kit Harington returning to his role after Daenerys' death and Jon's banishment. Another show, The Sea Snake would follow the adventures of Corlys Velaryon as he explores the world of Game of Thrones by sea. 10,000 Ships, meanwhile, is another spin-off that also centers around the ocean, as it explores Princess Nymeria's seaward voyage to Dorne hundreds of years before the Targaryen conquest.

There are also multiple animated productions in development, and one will center on the mysterious Eastern nation of Yi-Ti. Some productions have already been canceled, including the spin-off centering around the Long Night, which shot a pilot that even George RR Martin isn't allowed to see. With so many Game of Thrones spin-offs in the works, it's no wonder that HBO has been finding it challenging to develop them all.
