There is little doubt Ramírez’s grandmother was on his mind when he rounded first base, touching off a wild celebration on the Progressive Field infield.
Ramírez wore a pink arm sleeve, batting gloves and cleats during the game against the Cardinals and said the win was not only special because of what it meant to his team, but also to Domincan mothers everywhere. “It’s a very important day,” Ramírez said via interpreter Agustin Rivero. “It’s special not only to be able to deliver for my mom, but also for all the mothers in the Dominican to make it a special day.”
