Ferrari built a total of nine F310B chassis throughout the course of the 1997 season. Of these, three were used exclusively by Schumacher, two were used solely by Irvine, and a further two were shared by the drivers. The example up for sale is chassis 176 which was only used during the Spanish Grand Prix by Irvine and not raced again.
The racer from North Ireland qualified in 11th and during the race, encountered severe blistering across his car’s tires. His problems were confounded by a 10-second stop-go penalty for ignoring blue flags and he ultimately finished the race in 12th place, well behind Schumacher who finished in fourth.At the end of the season, Ferrari retained the car in its collection before it was sold to Michael Gabel of Germany in 1998.
While someone in the market for such a race car could be excused for keeping it locked away in storage, it would also be well-suited to the Ferrari F1 Corse Clienti program where it could be taken on the track.
