While President Donald Trump has yet to take action on flavored electronic cigarettes, the American Medical Association called for a total vaping ban.

WASHINGTON – President Trump announced plans to restart talks over potential bans or restrictions on vaping Wednesday after the American Medical Association and the state of New York put vaping companies on notice that they would push ahead on Tuesday.

The meeting will give the administration a chance to hear from"a large group, representing all sides as we continue to develop responsible guidelines that protect the public health and the American people," he added. Also Tuesday, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a lawsuit against Juul Labs, claiming the company illegally marketed flavored e-cigarettes to teenagers.

"At this time, we are in an ongoing rule-making process, and I will not speculate on the final outcome."

As of Nov. 13, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 2,172 people injured and 42 dead. The CDC has linked the injuries to vitamin E acetate, used as a thickening agent or to dilute THC oil in vape cartridges to make it go further. Tetrahydrocannabinol, known as THC, is the ingredient in cannabis that creates the"high."
