White House directed Commerce Sec. Wilbur Ross to pressure NOAA to “correct the record” after forecasters contradicted Pres. Trump’s claim that Alabama was in Hurricane Dorian's path, senior White House official tells ABC News.

Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney directed Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to reach out to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and “correct the record” after weather forecasters contradicted President Donald Trump’s claim that Alabama was in the path of Hurricane Dorian, a senior White House official told ABC News Wednesday.

The New York Times was the first to report of the White House’s direct involvement in the administration’s effort to pressure NOAA to publicly repudiate the forecasters who tweeted definitively that “Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian.” Commerce Department officials have described the story as"false.” The department’s inspector general has said the matters are now “under review.”

But multiple sources in the White House have since confirmed to ABC News that it was Trump himself who drew on the map.
