in summer 2020, Phoenix-based nonprofit Local First Arizona and others called on people to vote with their dollars by supporting Black-owned businesses.
Javet said she was glad to see her list circulating and she hoped people would continue to support these restaurants even when protests weren't making headlines. "The thing is, other communities only take notice of Black pain and suffering when it’s nationalized. But the reality is, you can participate and support every day, locally," she said.
The Arizona Republic has updated Javet's original directory to add more restaurants, as well as food trucks, caterers, farms and other food and beverage-related businesses.
