– Have you seen the videos on social media of the giant croissants? They are huge, every pastry lover’s dream come true.It is Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage month and the woman who created these croissants is from Pakistan. Her name is Maham Qureshi. While Maham was very busy working as a pastry chef, she found she was craving an outlet more creative than her regular baking schedule provided. “Honestly, I was bored. I had had a long week at work.
I was like, Okay, I gotta go in the kitchen. I thought, giant croissant. Sounds pretty good.” And from here Maham has never looked back.Houston Life’s Melanie Camp went to Canary Café in Montrose, to where Shakkar Croissanterie bakes all their pastries to find out how these croissants came about. ‘Shakkar’ means ‘sugar’ in Urdu and the bakery focuses on croissants of all styles and flavors.
