The city’s official Juneteenth Festival takes place Friday and Saturday at Comanche Park No. 2
Larry Braggs, who has sung with Tower of Power and the Temptations, is Saturday’s featured act at the Juneteenth Festival at Comanche Park.SAN ANTONIO — Juneteenth, which marks the day when enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free more than two year’s after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, became a national holiday in 2021. The day has been observed in some form in Texas ever since, and it became a state holiday in 2020.
The city’s official Juneteenth celebration, which dates to 1996, is organized by the San Antonio Juneteenth Commission. This year’s Juneetenth Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Comanche Park No. 2, 2600 Rigsby Ave. It will feature live music, gospel groups, children’s games and a fish fry.
