Police officials criticized the indictments Friday, arguing that the behavior of the officers didn’t rise to the level of criminal behavior.
Dallas Police Association President Michael Mata said the indictments were “unfortunate and unprecedented” and an “overstep of judicial powers.” Garland police Chief Jeff Bryan said he was “astonished and disappointed” by the indictment of his officer. Bryan said he authorized Garland officers to help Dallas police during the protests and that they were working “under the most dangerous of circumstances.”Mabry and Privitt are both on administrative leave.Grand jury hearings are conducted behind closed doors, and are tasked with deciding whether there is enough probable cause for a case to advance through the court system.
