Fifty years after the final Apollo mission, NASA's Space Launch System is ready to launch a spacecraft capable of carrying humans to the moon.
NASA's highly-anticipated Artemis I moon mission is set to launch and you can watch the event live online. NASA has a two-hour launch window that opens at 8:33 a.m. ET on Monday. The window was chosen due to the beneficial alignment of our planet and at this time. There will be no astronauts in the spacecraft. During the four-to-six-week mission, the Orion capsule will travel around the moon without a crew before returning to Earth. Artemis I will serve as a test of both Orion and the SLS ahead of future manned flights to the moon and beyond. Over the course of the flight, Orion will fly farther than any spacecraft built to carry humans has ever flown, reaching a distance of around 280,000 miles from Earth.
