What should the Vikings do with Kirk Cousins’ contract this offseason? SKOL
Cousins enjoyed a fruitful season under first-year head coach Kevin O’Connell. Cousins completed 424 of a career-high 643 passing attempts for an impressive completion percentage of 65.9%. Cousins threw 29 touchdowns and led the Vikings to a 13-4 regular-season record and NFC North division title, their best finish since 2017.
But a career-high in passing attempts also led to more turnovers and questionable decisions. Cousins threw a career-high 14 interceptions while many wondered what Minnesota’s true ceiling was despite such regular-season success. Those questions proved to be legitimate as the Vikings were disappointingly dumped from the postseason at home by the New York Giants on wild-card weekend.
Cousins’ inability to lead Minnesota to a playoff victory despite a personal-best finish has many wondering about his long-term outlook with the Vikings. The postseason failure versus the Giants should mean Cousins is entering a do-or-die campaign in 2023. Either Cousins leads the Vikings to postseason success or Adofo-Mensah could begin pivoting for a future without Cousins.
The Vikings aren’t armed with enough draft capital to make a move for a top quarterback prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft. But Adofo-Mensah does have three selections between 120 and 178 overall. That could be prime real estate for the Vikings to draft a mid-round developmental quarterback such as
