The fan experience at the Cotton Bowl needs to be improved, according to Brian Luallen, CEO of Fair Park First, the nonprofit that oversees the management of the 277-acre site.
“But some of the best designers of stadiums in the world, like [architect] Bryan Trubey, are telling us that the Cotton Bowl can compete head-to-head with any venue built in the last 20 years because of its intimacy.” Luallen said city officials told him that the recent economic impact of the game is around $40 million generated through taxes and direct money paid by game visitors. He said the game carries a cultural significance worth keeping in Dallas in addition to the economic impact to the city and Fair Park.
“They didn’t have huge asks, but very specifically, they wanted to see a long-term plan and a path to implementation,” he said. Luallen noted that recent renderings of an upgraded Cotton Bowl have been directly influenced by conversations with the universities of Texas and Oklahoma.. If the proposition passes, renovations to the stadium and other venues starting immediately after the 2023 state fair is under consideration, Luallen said.
