Alex Andrade, Milpitas' economic development director, has high hopes for a new district the company plans to create near its BART station.
The southern part of Milpitas that surrounds its BART station could be transformed over the next 20 years.for redeveloping 437 acres in that area of the city. The scheme, known as the Milpitas Metro Specific Plan, divides that area into five sections and lays out the city's vision for each one.
This ecosystem supports a risk-taking environment facilitates idea generation with experimentation. The city of Milpitas a well-connected Innovation District, with proximity to public transit and bike paths, sidewalks, social gathering places and high-speed fiber . How much could the Innovation District generate for the city in terms of property taxes and other forms of revenue?
How will the recent trends in hybrid and remote work affect the plan for office space in the Innovation District? How will it remain relevant if the place where people work is changing? The Milpitas Metro Specific Plan area has experienced significant residential growth, with approximately 7,000 new units constructed, under construction or going through the permit and entitlements phase now.
