We, the majority of American citizens, express outrage over the brutality with which the ruling classes of other countries treat their “lesser” citizenry. The sad truth is that we treat our “lesser” citizens in a similar manner.

Black lives are of lesser importance than those of whites. This tacit understanding has been evident since the first slaves were offloaded in Virginia to be traded for goods, to be employed in hard physical labor, to cook and be bred and die with impunity at the hands of white men. Moreover, we have a subpopulation of “more equal animals” who feel entitled to act on this notion in whatever manner their pack mentality directs.

More officers descend and Nichols breaks free and runs away. The officers are blinded by their own pepper spray; they’re winded and gasping for breath. They’re furious. One says, “I hope they [other officers] stomp his ass.”
