Pine first took up the role of Captain Kirk in 2009 for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, the first installment in a new series of Trek stories following a younger, alternate universe version of Jim Kirk and his crew.

In 2018, Pine appeared as Mr. Murry in Disney's A Wrinkle in Time, as well as starring as the legendary Robert the Bruce in Netflix's Outlaw King.
Chris Pine Wants To Play Captain Kirk Again In Star Trek 4 As part of the promotion for Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Chris Pine did an extensive interview with Esquire in March of 2023. As part of this interview, Pine reiterated his love for the Star Trek franchise, saying: "I love the character. I love the people. I love the franchise.
In this same interview, Pine also expressed his frustration about the lack of information about Star Trek 4. With the many other Star Trek projects now happening on Paramount+, Chris Pine's chance to play Captain Kirk again may be slipping away. Still, many Star Trek fans would be happy to see at least one final voyage for Pine's Kirk and the rest of the Kelvin timeline Enterprise crew.
