“It made sense for us to come this direction instead and we wanted to bring downtown to the suburbs,” Katsaros said. A key design element of Westsiders is the industrial panels and grates that were once a part of the downtown Higbee’s and Terminal Tower structures. The pieces also help to literally bring a piece of downtown to the suburbs.
Westsiders Chef Chris Suntala also has roots in the West Side suburbs. Suntala grew up in Rocky River before heading to the East Coast to pursue a culinary career. He returned home after the COVID-19 pandemic and began working at Landmark. A few months later, Katsaros and Messer realized his style of upscale cuisine with an edge would be perfect at their new location.
The Caprese cocktail starts with a whiskey base that’s complemented by basil, tomato, lime, grapefruit and whey. The Buckeye Old Fashion featuring bourbon, peanut butter, chocolate and bitters is the ultimate nightcap to a delicious meal.
