Pittsburgh Central Catholic defeated Penn Hills Friday night in a way that most folks have never seen before and may never again.
Don’t be surprised if the end of Friday night’s Pittsburgh Central Catholic-Penn Hills game goes national. And that is because it might just be the wildest ending to a high school football game most fans will see in their lifetime.
Central Catholic wound up winning 33-28, split seconds after it appeared the game was over and while Penn Hills celebrated that idea.Well, Central Catholic lined up for a 49-yard field goal that would have given it the lead as time expired. Penn Hills blocked the kick, though, and its players began to celebrate on the field.
But a blocked kick is not a dead ball, and while Penn Hills celebrated what it thought was a win, Central Catholic lineman Anthony Shovlin ran over, picked up the ball, and took off for a 32-yard, game-winning touchdown. As the big fella is rumbling in for the score, Penn Hills appears to realize what is happening and many of the players and coaches look stunned.Penn Hills shared video of the play on Twitter.
