Defending Philippine sovereignty and sovereign rights in the West Philippines Sea remains a government priority in advancing its defense capabilities and bilateral relations, said Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo during the US-PH 2+2 Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue in Manila.
Manalo emphasized that the dialogue with US Secretaries Antony Blinken and Lloyd Austin focused on maintaining peace and stability within the region. In a press conference following the high-level dialogue, Manalo clarified the deployment of US missile systems in the country, saying they are intended to enhance defensive capabilities and are not meant for offensive use. Hence, he does not see how such a thing would emerge into an arms race.
