It may not have been as frightening as Camp Crystal Lake, but forgive the Middletown running backs if they wake up from nightmares of West Perry defenders.
On Oct. 13, West Perry reached 8-0 on the year in a dominating 31-6 win thanks to a scary defensive performance that limited the visiting Raiders to a modest 80 rushing yards.Just four plays after receiving the opening kickoff, the Mustangs seized the lead on a 6-yard QB keeper from Marcus Quaker.
By building a quick lead, West Perry once again allowed its offense to control tempo and - despite needing just 17 more points over the final three frames - roll to 411 yards of total offense. The entire defense responded, holding Middletown to just 152 total yards, including 53 on its final drive that snapped West Perry’s shut-out on a scrambled final play of the game.
The linebackers also turned in solid performances across the board. Hockenberry-Folk led all defenders with eight tackles and became the first Mustang since 2019 to block a field goal attempt. Goodling added seven tackles , Hockenberry collared both defensive sacks and Erno wrapped up five tackles and recovered a fumble.
