Each candidate’s name will appear two times on both Dallas County and Denton County ballots in what’s known as cumulative balloting. Voters may cast two votes; they may select the same candidate twice or split their votes between two.
That was unfortunate, and we’re glad to see Schackmann run again. The district is at a crossroads and needs his experience on the board. A new superintendent, Wendy Eldredge, just started last month. A proposed $716.4 million bond program is also on the ballot and will likely pass with broad support. And the district has recently faced a rash of student fentanyl overdoses.
Schackmann, a consultant to nonprofits, has deep knowledge of the declining state of district school buildings, which will get a big boost if the bond program passes. He’s also well-versed in the district’s assessment of student achievement and favors enhanced data collection.
