WATCH LIVE 1:00PM: White House PressSec addresses environmental justice initiative signed by POTUS today.
The briefing is being held on the same day the White House announced that President Joe Biden signed an executive order titled"Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All." The order is described as part of the Biden administration's effort to"confront long-standing environmental injustices and inequities."
"With this action, the President is working to ensure that all people — regardless of race, background, income, ability, Tribal affiliation, or zip code — can benefit from the vital safeguards enshrined in our nation’s foundational environmental and civil rights laws," the White House statement read."That means cleaner air and water, reduced risk for asthma, cancer, and other health burdens, and better access to green space, safe and affordable housing, and clean transportation.
Biden has also been under pressure to sit down with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy after the GOP leader revealed his plan to address the debt ceiling. McCarthy stalled in releasing a plan, which Biden said he was waiting for before meeting with the Republican to address the impending crisis.
