Called to account for the disaster that was the Taylor Swift presale, Joe Berchtold, president and chief financial officer of Ticketmaster parent company Live Entertainment, Inc., blamed cyberattacks.
Critics say the 2010 merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster has been a disaster for competition in the industry. Klobuchar cited issues that arise with consolidation in agriculture, pharmaceutical, tech and other industries, as well as live entertainment. “This is all a definition of monopoly because Live Nation is so powerful that it doesn’t even need to exert pressure.” Klobuchar said. “It doesn’t need to threaten because people just fall in line.”
