'[It was] either the exit sign or the sporting goods section to get a weapon, I didn't know,' one eyewitness told local media, describing their response to the incident.
A 56-year-old man was taken into custody by Florida police yesterday after driving a golf cart through a Hillsborough County Walmart, hitting several patrons.
Surveillance footage of the incident was released by law enforcement this week, showing the man speeding into an area filled with an array of customers and onlookers. The Walmart is based at 9205 Gibsonton Dr. and is the same location which was evacuated last Sunday after an employeewho claimed he was planning to"shoot up" the store. The suspect was named as Wayne Lee Padgett, 31. The cases are not linked.
Jason Waldrop, who was also at the scene at the time of the incident, told WFTS-TV the suspect appeared to be having trouble breathing after the cart's collision with the cash register.
