The table seemingly used the web page where the CDC posted weekly COVID-19 fatality updates for its alleged 2020 death total. Under the heading “deaths from all causes,” the page reported 2,902,664 fatalities — the same number in the viral meme — on Dec. 30. *Data during this period are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction and cause of death.
