There still is no clear timeline for when Wiggins will be cleared to play in games.
The Warriors see no need to rush Wiggins back even though they could really use his reliability as a veteran as injuries and the wear and tear of the season is starting to catch up with the team’s other starters. Curry is out for at least two weeks after he partially dislocated his left shoulder earlier this week. Draymond Green was listed as probable for Sunday’s game with a quad bruise that kept him out of Thursday’s loss in Philadelphia.
Thompson played through the pain Thursday, and Kerr doesn’t believe there’s a reason to be concerned yet with Thompson experiencing soreness in the knee he had surgery to repair a torn ACL in 2019. “When you get older and you’ve had injuries, you’re more prone to pain. And then when you get to 57, everything hurts but fortunately Klay’s only 32. So he’s 25 years away from where I am right now,” Kerr said. “He was a little sore last night, he played through it, he’s feeling better today. And should be good to go [Sunday.]”
Wiggins, who had been playing some of his best basketball before he went down with a strained adductor, knows the 14-16 Warriors have a tough challenge ahead as they’ll be without Curry indefinitely. But he said the team needs to do more than just tread water during the next couple of weeks. “We’re out there to win,” Wiggins said. “Steph is Steph. Steph is irreplaceable. But next-man up mentality and everyone’s had to step up and give it all, play their heart out, play together. Obviously not one guy can replace Steph. He is who he is… We got to do it together every game and just got to go out there win.”
