Shotgun Mary doesn't appear in Warrior Nun season 2, but series creator Simon David Barry now explains her absence. Mary was a pivotal part of Warrior Nun season 1's cast; she was instrumental in bringing the new Halo Bearer, Ava Silva , into the Order of the Cruciform Sword, and she investigated the death of Ava's predecessor, Sister Shannon , uncovering a conspiracy at the heart of the OCS.
In Warrior Nun season 2, Shotgun Mary is believed to be dead, although the exact wording is "Mary's gone." Mary, Ava, Sister Beatrice , Sister Lilith , and Sister Camila confronted Adriel in the final moments of Warrior Nun season 1. Ava was tricked into releasing Adriel from his prison beneath the Vatican, and Mary led the charge to take down the rogue angel.
And at the same time, we had to deal with the reality that Toya was just not available for filming. So, it was a very challenging puzzle. But we figured it out in a way that I think honors Shotgun Mary's character and also sets up the new characters that emerge in season 2. I'm hoping it plays out well. It's always awkward when it's not the plan, right? We did not plan this, but we had to sort of adjust on the fly.
How Shotgun Mary Could Return In Warrior Nun Season 3 Shotgun Mary missing out on Warrior Nun season 2 was certainly disappointing considering how crucial she was to season 1. Toya Turner turned Mary into a fan-favorite character who was often the grounded voice of reason for her Sister Warriors. However, the reports of Shotgun Mary's death may be greatly exaggerated.
There are other means to bring Toya Turner back as Shotgun Mary in Warrior Nun season 3, as well. Just as Mary made Lilith see reason and helped her after her transformation in Warrior Nun season 1, Mary could be just as pivotal for Lilith in season 3. Mary is also the ideal person to determine if Father Vincent truly deserves forgiveness for betraying the OCS for Adriel.
