The Democratic presidential candidates said health-care policy is a campaign issue that can unite voters and drive turnout in the 2020 election.Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said voters shouldn’t worry about President Trump’s criticism of Medicare for All as socialism in health care because “he lies.” He said taking on the pharmaceutical industry and focusing on health care will bring Americans together with his Medicare for All plan.
Mr. Biden said Mr. Sanders hasn’t laid out how much Medicare for All will cost or who is going to pay for it. “The idea that middle-class taxes aren’t going to go up is crazy,” he said. Mr. Biden said the bill, with no price tag, will be a Herculean effort to pass. “I keep listening to this same debate and it’s not real,” said Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. She said Mr. Buttigieg previously backed Medicare for All and that leadership means sticking with one plan.
