Apple breaks ground on new $1 billion Austin campus, as President Trump is set to arrive for tourApple Inc. announced Wednesday that it has started construction of its new $1 billion, 3-million-square-foot campus in Austin, Texas, which will initially employ 5,000 people. The new campus is expected to open in 2022, and will have the capacity to grow to 15,000 employees. Apple said at a nearby facility, it is preparing to start shipping its new Mac Pro to customers in December. Apple's announcement comes as President Trump is scheduled to tour the company's manufacturing facility in Austin on Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. Central. Last week, Apple reportedly hired Jeffrey Miller, a close ally of President Trump, as the company lobbies to avoid getting hit with new tariffs. And in September, Apple said it will continue to make its new Mac Pro in Austin, reversing earlier plans to move production overseas. Apple's stock, which fell 0.5% in premarket trading, as run up 69% year to date through Tuesday while the Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained 20%.
