Bryson DeChambeau won his second US Open title after beating Rory McIlroy by one shot in a dramatic final round at Pinehurst. DeChambeau, who came into the final round with a three-shot lead over McIlroy, recorded a par on the last hole to secure the win.
That’s how Wallace softball coach David Dews describes the incoming freshmen in his first full recruiting class. When Dews first arrived at Wallace last August, he only had 12 players total on his entire roster. He and assistant coach Brianna Griffiths have already signed that number and they are not done yet.
“We have addressed some needs,” he said. “The staff has done a real good job of addressing our incoming personnel needs. Now I don’t feel like we’ll be behind all the time. We’re catching back up from our first year.” Among those incoming freshmen are two players who just won a state championship at the high school level in Lana Carpenter and Olivia Reynolds. Both are outfielders from Wicksburg High School which won the AHSAA Class 2A softball title this spring.
People are also reading… “They’re both part of a winning tradition,” Dews said of the pair. “They’ve been coached well, and they are conditioned to winning. They have certain traits I look for. They already understand the elite parts of the game. They are already used to hard work and that’s a bonus for the winning type of program we’re trying to build here.
