Yay or nay?
As both a long-running comic and a beloved TV institution, The Walking Dead remains the definitive word in today's zombie fiction. Creator Robert Kirkman worked on both the original comic and its adaptation, and hasn't been shy in sharing his thoughts on zombie fiction, heaping praise on the work of George A. Romero.

In The Walking Dead Deluxe #69 , Kirkman shares his answers to fan letters, including one asking what he thinks about Zombieland. Kirkman says he enjoyed the comedic movie, but that it didn't hold a candle to Shaun of the Dead. Kirkman says:
Shaun has so much emotion to go along with the comedy. Shaun was funny because the people in the story were funny, but I'd never write it off as a funny or silly zombie movie. I think it stands up against the best of zombie movies quite nicely.Walking Dead's Creator Ranks Shaun of the Dead Alongside Romero While Shaun of the Dead is beloved by horror and comedy fans alike, it will shock many to see Kirkman rank it alongside the oeuvre of George A. Romero.
As the creator behind Invincible, Die! Die! Die! and Thief of Thieves, it's not surprise that Kirkman would appreciate Shaun of the Dead as a masterpiece, but many horror aficionados will be offended to see a 'horror parody' ranked alongside Romero.
While The Walking Dead isn't known for its humor, it's not hard to see that - with its appreciation of everyday emotional life and deep reverence for past zombie fiction - it shares some DNA with Shaun of the Dead, making it particularly satisfying that Kirkman is willing to show so much love to a film that's in many people's Top Ten of all time.
