From local jewelers to artisanal hat ateliers, Vogue Head of Fashion Initiatives Rickie De Sole shares her favorite must-stop shopping spots in Rome.
In 2015, Fendi moved into its new headquarters in Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana—a marble, Fascist-style building built in the days of Benito Mussolini. Inside is a café, their atelier, and displayed pieces from their latest collection. But De Sole’s favorite part? A Fendi vending machine. “It’s such a new age shopping experience,” she says. “Inside are Fendi-curated guidebooks to Rome, luggage tags, and little kid’s toys.
On her last trip, she fell in love with what she calls his “summer jewels”: elaborate creations made of resin and rope. “He’s quite modern with his pieces,” she says.Photo: Courtesy of Rickie De SoleAcross the street from Salini’s shop on Via di Monserrato is the vibrant store of Soledad Twombly, an Argentina-born designer. It’s filled with crazy colorful clothing, fanciful furniture, andsourced from her own travels. “It’s her personal curation,” says De Sole.
