Atty. John "Jal" Laylo, the Filipino lawyer who was shot while visiting relatives in the United States, has died."I thank God for the 35 years of his life. I'm beyond grateful for having a good, smart, generous, loving, caring son. These are the adjectives I can think of now. I'm lost of words!" Leah said on Facebook.

The two were in the United States to visit relatives in Philadelphia. They were on board an Uber vehicle en route to an airport when shot by a still unidentified assailant. Leah sustained minor injuries following the shooting and is now in stable condition while John, who was hit in the head, was placed on life supportInvestigators are looking for CCTV footage of the incident in order to identify the suspect or suspects.

"I can't explain the pain the heaviness I have in my heart. It took me hours to post this because still I can’t believe this happened!" Leah said.As a lawyer, John worked under Senator Leila de Lima and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas. He was also one of the lawyers of outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo during the canvassing of votes in the May 2022 elections where Robredo ran for president.
