A Filipino-American athletic scholar at the government-run National Academy of Sports and three more Filipinos based abroad pulled off stunning performances to overshadow the absence of Olympian Kayla Sanchez on Thursday at the start of the Philippine Aquatics, Inc. 50-meter National Sports Trials at the Teofilo Yldefonso swimming pool in Malate, Manila.
‘It feels so amazing because I sacrificed so much for this moment. I woke up at 2 a.m. every day to practice before going to school, there’s so much pressure on me but surprisingly I made it, and so very happy with the results,” said the 15-year-old Coleman. “Napagod ng husto. Na late kasi yung parade yesterday. Pag-uwi namin sa hotel kagabi masama na ang pakiramdam, kanina paggising medyo may sinat na kaya nag decide kami na scratch na lang yung event today,” said Sanchez’s father Noel.District Congressman Eric Buhain said the Trials will be part of the selection process for members of the National training pool, the best bets here to represent the country in international competitions this year until the first two quarters of 2025.
