A Chesapeake, Virginia man was found guilty Thursday of felony and misdemeanor charges for his conduct during the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol.
FILE - This image provided by the Philadelphia Police Department shows Antonio LaMotta, who is facing trial on charges that he drove a Hummer containing guns to Philadelphia to interfere with the 2020 presidential election. LaMotta has been arrested in a separate case that alleges his involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection. He was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, in the southeastern Virginia city of Chesapeake, according to court documents filed in U.S. District Court in Washington.
On January 6, Lamotta attended a rally near the Senate Russell Building and later approached the U.S. Capitol from the East side where rioters had seized control of the area, court documents show. He saw law enforcement officers trying to clear the area, turned to the rioters behind him and waved his arms, motioning them toward the Rotunda, court documents show.
Officers ultimately forced Lamotta and others out through the East Rotunda doors around 3:30 p.m. Lamotta remained on the Capitol grounds until around 5 p.m., according to court documents.
