Virgin billionaire Richard Branson has emerged as one of the real villains of Britain’s coronavirus crisis–in the court of public opinion.
During the U.K.’s General Election campaign Prime Minister Boris Johnson compared Labour leader and Socialist Jeremy Corbyn to Stalin over his “hatred” of wealth creators. Johnson said the Conservatives would “cheer, not sneer” entrepreneurs if they are returned to power.
Richard Fuller the Conserative MP for North East Bedfordshire since 2019 told Parliament Wednesday, on “the point of leaders not doing the right thing” before getting out his calculator, checking thewebsite for an accurate estimated net worth for Sir Richard, and launching a broadside against the business leader in full view of the watching world.
Rousing to a crescendo, the Tory MP concluded, “Big or small—in a small village, a leader of a church or a leader of a large business—when it comes to looking at the protection of your workers, the time is now, and we will judge you all by your actions.” Also, Branson’s net worth has sunk by a further $400 million since Monday, now standing at $3.4 billion.
“It's not about Richard Branson. It's about a leadership team who care about each and every one of us and I for one am going to stand loyal to Virgin after 18 years and will be doing what it takes,” she wrote.
