Viltrox has released the 75mm f/1.2 lens it originally launched for Fujifilm X-Mount in both Nikon Z and Sony E mount variants.
The 75mm f/1.2 was originally billed as a “high-end” portrait prime for Fujifilm shooters when it was announced in February. It promised excellent autofocus performance as well as professional handling and reliability, which are high bars to clear for Fujifilm shooters.
Viltrox promises that photographers can expect extremely high resolving power and sharpness that is consistent from edge to edge, and that claim felt largely accurate — as long as focus was nailed. “Shooting with it over a period of weeks has been a great experience and time and time again it’s shown a remarkable ability to produce crisp photos that have sharpness and contrast… when you get the focus right,” Smith notes. “As the DoF calculations above show, you need to be pinpoint accurate to get the best results.”
Given the optical formula is the same — it features a construction of 16 elements arranged in 11 groups, including four high-refractive index lenses — performance on Nikon Z and Sony E APS-C cameras should be, theoretically, a similar experience. The lens has an aperture range of f/1.2 to f/16 via an 11-bladed diaphragm, a minimum focusing distance of 0.88 meters , and the autofocus is driven by a screw-based STM system. Focusing is entirely internal and the front filter size is 77mm.
Viltrox also promises “professional level” water and dust resistance, which doesn’t necessarily have a consistent meaning amount camera manufacturers but the company says it can survive dust and water “droplets.”The next batch of samples was captured on a Sony Alpha 7R V in APS-C mode — a curious choice given the company’s range of native APS-C cameras:
