Why one of Silicon Valley's oldest firms promoted 26-year-old Saam Motamedi to its highest ranks.
At the recently-acquired application services platform Avi Networks, which Greylock backed starting with its Series A funding round in 2012, Motamedi served as a board observer for three years. Avi Networks CEO Amit Pandey says that Greylock’s decision to promote young talent like Motamedi is wise.
Prior to Greylock, Motamedi co-founded credit card data startup Guru Labs and worked in product management at RelateIQ, which wasGreylock general partner Asheem Chandna, a 16-year veteran of the firm, says Motamedi was able to leverage his knowledge in machine learning and AI to help Greylock recently win two unannounced investments.
Greylock has been conspicuously absent from the list of investor winners in a big year for tech public offerings so far in 2019. But it did profit from the IPOs of Dropbox, Domo and Zuora last year and is an investor in unicorns including Airbnb and CoinbaseChandna says Greylock isn’t changing its strategy any time soon: “We’re not just asset-gatherers. We’re not just check writers,” he says. “We’re more selective. We have high intellectual rigor in the work we do.
