Last full month of regular season contests begin in exciting action at Ulmer Field
Houston players warm up for their Saturday NASA Pony contest as the sprinklers wet down the infield dirt in preparation for the game.With homemade white T-shirts that bore all sorts of messages, NASA Pony Baseball celebrated"Sandlot Day" at Ulmer Field Saturday.
It was just another busy Saturday for the league in picturesque Bay Area Park as four contests were held from morning to early evening. Also at Ulmer Field, North Carolina defeated Friendswood 10-9 and Sam Houston edged TCU 6-5. Amsler accounted for five bases in the opening five innings. His triple in the fifth happened to plate Brooks, who had walked, creating a 6-2 lead. Wharton immediately followed by rapping a single that scored Amsler and Derek Nall later singled home the team's eighth run.
The boys on TCU's roster were all in on"Sandlot Day" because so many weren't wearing a purple jersey, just white T-shirts. That almost got them a come-from-behind victory, but a 5-0 deficit after one inning proved too great of a deficit.
