UVALDE, Texas - The Uvalde Police Department released on Saturday what they thought was the full video record of the tragic mass shooting on May 24, 2022 at Rob
b Elementary School to fulfill a court order.According to a press release, Uvalde Police Chief Homer Delago was told by an officer that some of his body camera footage wasn't included in the massive release over the weekend. Chief Delgado didn’t waste time, immediately launching a full-scale audit of the Uvalde Police servers to see if anything else had been overlooked.Sure enough, the audit turned up several additional videos.
From day one as Chief, I rolled out the Guardian Initiative, which promises total transparency,” Delgado said. “In keeping with that promise, we’re doing a deep dive into our footage collection and storage practices. We’re committed to making sure this department meets the highest standards. The people of Uvalde and the public deserve nothing less.
The massacre was one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history. On that day, 19 fourth-grade students and two teachers were killed when a teenage gunman entered a classroom at Robb Elementary School and started firing. Nearly 400 law enforcement officers waited more than an hour to confront the gunman.
The City of Uvalde is also set to review whether it’s fully complied with Judge Harle’s order, especially now that more footage has surfaced.Chief Delgado and Assistant Chief Mike Davis—both new faces in the department, with Delgado starting on Apr. 6 and Davis on Apr. 29—are now diving into an internal affairs probe. They’re out to figure out how the slip-up happened, who dropped the ball, and what, if any, disciplinary actions will follow.
