UTSA corner Nicktroy Fortune finds new opportunity after transfer from West Virginia
Nicktroy Fortune appeared in 29 games at West Virginia, totaling 77 tackles, six passes broken up and one interception.Even after three years as a starter at West Virginia, cornerback Nicktroy Fortune discovered during the offseason that he “didn’t feel like I was really there, mentally.”
He fielded offers from Houston and East Carolina but said he felt the most “genuine love” from UTSA, deciding in April to join the Roadrunners’ robust cornerback group. Across three seasons at West Virginia, Fortune appeared in 29 games with 19 starts, totaling 77 tackles, six passes broken up and an interception.
Fortune also made a quick impression on his teammates. Mayfield called him “Mr. Consistent,” safety Kelechi Nwachuku dubbed him “the technician,” and safety Ken Robinson described him as “a real scrappy guy who loves to get in your face.” With so many options at cornerback, Robinson slid to safety, joining a room with Nwachuku and projected starters Rashad Wisdom and Clifford Chattman.
