UTSA aims to put finishing touches on Group of Five’s top-rated signing class

UTSA quarterback Frank Harris moves the ball down the field during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Conference USA game against UTEP at the Alamodome. On the eve of the regular signing period, UTSA holds the highest 247Sports composite recruiting ranking of any program set to play in the Group of Five next season.

“That’s the beautiful thing about the transfer portal, and it’s the bad thing about it: A lot of great high school players are getting left out,” Traylor said. “So we’re trying to have a blended roster. A few , a few junior college, and as many high school kids as we can that fit Power Five measurables.”

Running back Brandon High from Spring Grand Oaks is fourth among UTSA’s all-time recruits, and linebacker Rodney Groce Jr. from East Mississippi Community College is fifth. The Roadrunners also maintained their focus on in-state products, with 54 of the 55 high school prospects signed in Traylor’s four recruiting classes coming from Texas.
